Allied Telesis upgrades x600 Series with higher performance and improved resiliency

x610 Series offers Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) for flexible end-point deployment and cost reductions

Chiasso, Switzerland, 1 November 2011 — Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks, has launched the x610 Series of Layer 3 switches, offering 100% backwards compatibility as well as a number of additional features to improve resiliency and scalability.

The x610 Series has a range of port density and uplink-connectivity options, allowing customers to choose between either 24 or 48 port versions. The x610 Series can also be stacked in up to eight units, comparable with only four units per stack for the previous x600 Series switches.

The x610 Series also has strong convergence capabilities, supported by a number of key features for voice, video and data. The high power PoE+ models can support the high power PoE+ standard, delivering up to 30W per port versus only 15.4 per port from the x600 Series. For increased flexibility, the x610 Series is offered with three alternative power supplies:

  • AT-PWR250 just system power – this does not support any PoE power and is used to future proof a network without adding the costs of PoE
  • AT-PWR800 800W PoE power supply - this provides 250W of system power and at least 480W of PoE power
  • AT-PWR1200 1200W PoE power supply - this provides 250W of system power and at least 800W of PoE power, allowing a 24-port switch to deliver PoE+ at 30W on all ports continuously

The same power modules can also be used in an optional redundant power supply module, providing either additional PoE power to an existing stack of switches, and/or providing redundancy backup should a power supply fail.

The x610 Series easily fits into part of a Virtual Chassis Stack (VCStack™) meaning that traffic is seamlessly routed to another switch in the event of a failure, without any disruption to the network. This not only cuts costs and provides excellent resiliency but also allows the stack to be managed as a single network node, simplifying management tasks.

“The upgrade to the x600 Series demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continually improve the resiliency and performance of our products,” comments Melvyn Wray, SVP of product marketing EMEA, Allied Telesis. “Customers want to be able to customize their networks but at the same time be able to offer the latest range of features and technologies. The x610 Series makes this possible without breaking the bank.”

The x610 Series also features VRF Lite support, a new feature which allows multiple VLANs to reside in the switch, with the end-point devices using the same IP addresses – but on separate VLANs. It now also automatically separates voice onto a separate VLAN to ensure the high priority of voice traffic.

The x610 Series is currently available across Europe.
